Governor Says US Election Result Presents Uncertainty

Governor Lolo Moliga told a cabinet meeting today the results of the US elections presents an uncertain economic outlook for the territory.

Without naming the president-elect, the governor said American Samoa’s relationship with the federal government will not be easy.

Lolo said it’s time for American Samoa to push on its own and not wait for decisions to be made by the federal government

Today was the first meeting between the Governor, the lt. governor met with directors since last Tuesday’s elections.

The governor expressed his gratitude to those who were heavily involved in the election and for their success at the polls.

He said the result would not have been the same if the directors had not performed their jobs well.

The governor said the victory is for everyone including those who did not support their team.

While the sweet taste of victory is in their hands, Governor Lolo pointed out that the operation of government is more difficult than ever.

He said their success in the elections comes with demanding expectations from the community.

Lolo told directors their work is going to be more challenging and difficult than before.

He conveyed that he has faith in them and they should have the courage and use their gift from God for the task that lies ahead.

Governor Lolo also asked the cabinet not to dwell in the past and let bygones be bygones.

On behalf of the First Lady, Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and their families, Lolo thanked the cabinet for their support.

He briefly made mention of  rumors that he’s not able to verify but did not elaborate.  Lolo said sometimes the media reports things from different sources.

The governor asked that directors treat employees well.

Meanwhile in his speech at the opening of the Bilateral Health Summit of the two Samoa this morning, Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga urged that every one should put the elections behind them and move forward.

He said regardless of who we supported, the elections are over and we should put any differences aside and mend our families , and serve our government.

He said yesterday was when employees heard advice from department directors and vice versa, and it’s now time to work together for the betterment of the government and the territory.
