With people still asking about the possibility of a run off election in the gubernatorial race,  Election Commissioner Uiagalelei Lealofi Uiagalelei explains that the law requires that the winner must have 50% plus 1 in order to win the gubernatorial election.

The 50% applies to the number of people who cast ballots in the voting for governor and lt governor, not registered voters.

He said the requirements of the law must be met and in order to be declared the winner, the front runner team must have 50% plus 1 vote.

There’s no run off election in the congressional race, the candidate with the most votes wins.
