The District Court will learn tomorrow morning if the government  is ready to argue Dean Fletcher’s motion to dismiss his case while he returns to Tonga to stand trial for the murder of his wife.

Fletcher  was on the run from Tonga where he was awaiting trial for murder and sailed to American Samoa on a yacht arriving here early last month.

Represented by Mathoni McCormick of the Public Defender’s Office, Fletcher appeared today for his pre-trial conference which had been postponed from last week on a continuance motion by the government .

The government said last week it needed  more time to deal with Fletcher’s case but today in court the government was still not ready to move forward on a plea agreement  that was presented by the defense.

The hearing for Fletcher was continued till tomorrow.

KHJ News has learned that Tongan police who have been here for a week working on extraditing Fletcher to Tonga have left today, unable to finalize arrangements with local authorities.
