Police Officers Get Their Overtime Pay

Police officers received overtime payments with their latest paychecks out this week.

This was confirmed by two police officers who said that the payments as far as they could tell were for overtime worked in Fiscal Year 2016.

According to one of the officers, he was paid half of his accrued overtime from last year.

He said he was happy to get something but wished that all of his overtime was paid because his family needs the money.

A ten year veteran commented that a few in his division got a lot more overtime hours paid than he…and he’s inquiring if there was a formula used and if ASG is going to cover the remaining balance of his overtime.

KHJ News has sent questions to Commissioner of Public Safety Save Liuato Tuitele.

Back in June, Governor Lolo Moliga held a meeting on a Sunday with officials of Budget, Treasury and Human Resources and directors or deputies of departments with unpaid overtime like DPS, Port Administration and Public Works.

The discussion was mainly on DPS overtime and Governor Lolo gave instructions that every effort must be made to pay the outstanding overtime.

Since early this year the US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division has pressed ASG to settle the DPS overtime.

Commissioner Save Liuato Tuitele  told KHJ News earlier that the  estimate of unpaid overtime for  DPS was about $300.000.
