A defendant whose name is well known in court, Sarasopa Siagigi, is back in jail for assault in third degree and private peace disturbance.

According to the government’s case, Siagigi allegedly became enraged at his father during evening prayer because his father had said something that displeased him.

He allegedly struck his dad in the back before he tackled, kicked, and punched him.

In court this morning the defendant argued that the information given by the government is false.

Bail for the defendant was initially set at $500 but his attorney, Public Defender Douglas Fiaui asked the court to lower the bail to $200 on the basis that the defendant is not a flight risk.

But Assistant Attorney General Woodrow Pengelly argued that the defendant had a matter in the High Court back in 2002 and may be a flight risk.

He suggested bail of not less than $300.

District Court Judge Fiti Sunia set bail for Siagigi at $300.
