Spread of Zika Requires Concerted Response in Territories

The spread of Zika in the US territories and the response to the disease, are among topics on the agenda of the two day Medical Symposium which opened this morning.

Hosted by the LBJ Hospital and Department of Health,  the symposium is attended by doctors, nurses,  information technology specialists, policy makers and private health related providers .

LBJ CEO Taufetee John Faumuina in his opening remarks talked about the prevalence of Zika in the US territories vs the US mainland.

Doctors and infection control specialists from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who have been working on Zika prevention, response and training in the territories are among the presenters at the symposium.

A skeletal staff manned the hospital, and clinics were either closed or had reduced hours today.
