Local Republican Party on Trump’s Unsavory Remarks

The American Samoa Republican Party and local Trump campaign say they do not condone the language used by the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump describing women in a derogatory manner.

A leaked recording has Trump talking about how he tried to have an affair with a married woman and described how he makes moves on woman.

The statements were recorded in 2005 as Trump was getting ready for an on air interview with then host of Access Hollywood Billy Bush.

KHJ News sought comments from both the Republican Party Chairman Utu Abe Malae and the chairman of the Trump Campaign in American Samoa, John Raynar, anchor of the Sunrise Show on 93 KHJ Radio.

Raynar responded that the local party and Trump campaign “do not condone the language used by Mr. Trump in a private conversation 11 years ago and we are pleased he offered an unqualified apology during his debate with Secretary Clinton on Sunday.”

KHJ News asked if the local party would still endorse Trump.

Raynar says because they do not have electoral votes, neither the party nor the local Trump campaign plays a role in the general election.

“Therefore, the question of endorsement is moot.”

He added that the only way they would be further involved in the national election is if there were a vacancy on the ticket, “which does not appear likely.”

Raynar said, “In my role as party vice chairman, I, as are other members of the party, am concentrating on the reelection of our endorsed congressional candidate, Aumua Amata.”
