Five Become Certified Divers in Shipyard Training

Five of our very own are now certified deep sea divers.

At an awards luncheon Friday at Paradise Pizza in Satala, Lieutenant Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga congratulated the five young men for completing the rigorous training.Divers

The five young men are:

  • Andrew Maloa – hull preservation specialist
  • Malologa Talai – marine welder and fabricator,
  • Peter Curry – marine welder and fabricator
  • Arthur Koloi – marine machinist & fitter
  • and Sinapati Avei – marine machinist & fitter

It was a lively event full of laughter, especially when Pulu Ae Ae Junior took the podium.

Speaking on behalf of Congresswoman Aumua Amata, Pulu described his time in the US Army when he used to dive because it was part of his job.

He joked that he almost met his end.

Pulu said he wanted to let the new graduates know that government officials understand how difficult their jobs are.

The graduates were certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors or (PADI) under the guidance of diving instructor Chief Kitara T. Vaiau.divers fitiau

CEO of the shipyard Moefaauo Bill Emsley said, “Divers are an essential ingredient in creating one of the shipyard’s new and long term visions, establishing a deidcated salvage response team for stranded and shipwrecks vessels throughout territorial waters and, this is only the 1st step of a 1000 mile journey
