The President and CEO of Amper, the Spain based parent company for BlueSky, Jamie Espinosa, has declined to answer KHJ News questions about the sale.

He says as the transaction is still proceeding towards completion and subject to approval by various government authorities, “we think it is inappropriate to comment more specifically at this time, except to say that the excellent and hard-working employees of Bluesky will be an important part of the continued success of Bluesky under its new ownership.”

The Amper Board of Directors has accepted a binding offer of $79.1 million for BlueSky from Fiji company Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Inc. which is partly owned by the government of Fiji.

The purchase still needs approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Governor Lolo Moliga has said that he wants to keep the ownership of BlueSky in American Samoa to protect the investment of local residents and protect local jobs.

Espinosa said in his response to our questions, “Amper is excited about the sale to ATH, and all of us believe that the sale will be in the best interest of Bluesky and the many terrific employees who have, and will continue, to provide important services to the people of Samoa and American Samoa.”

He added, “We are also grateful to Governor Lolo Letalu Matalasi Moliga and the various branches of government in American Samoa, the United States and Samoa with whom we and ATH have been and will continue to be working in the future.”
