Good Samaritans Help LBJ with Ambulances

It’s taken two years to get them here but they’ve finally arrived.

This morning, five second hand ambulances from Hawaii were officially handed over to the CEO of the LBJ Tropical Medical Center Taufetee John Faumuina.

An elated Taufete’e said” God is good, all the time! …most nights I pray to God for assistance and he has shown us that kindness this morning!”

The fleet includes 4 type 2 ambulances and one minivan.

According to Chief of EMS Galumalemana Popo Avegalio EMS was promised these vehicles for more than 2 years now.

The units were donated by the City and County of Honolulu via the Governor’s Officer to the LBJ Hospital.

Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga accepted the ambulances on behalf of Governor Lolo Moliga.

He said, “Just like a child on Christmas morning when there are many gifts you just say thank you!” .Lemanu also thanked the owner of Paramount Builders, Papali’I Lauli’I Alofa and the Matson Shipping Company and the Board of LBJ for all working together to get the ambulances to the territory.

LBJ CEO Taufate’e said originally the cost of shipping the fleet here was $50,000.

He said shipping company Matson generously agreed to drop the cost to $20,000 but even then Treasury said LBJ had to wait another year .

The CEO said, “Our hands were tied but Papali’I answered in kindness to the cry of the public for more ambulances.”

The Paramount Builders owner in a brief address thanked everyone for recognizing efforts by their humble company for the community.

At the same ceremony, a ribbon cutting officially opened the newly renovated LBJ Emergency Room.

The LBJ CEO told KHJ News all the rusty and deteriorated parts of the Emergency Room were repaired and old broken equipment were replaced.

The CEO gave special acknowledgements to Honolulu City Mayor Kirk Caldwell  and County of Honolulu, Governor Lolo and Lt Gov Lemanu, Paramount Builders (Papali’i Lauli’i Alofa), Matson Shipping (Moeipologa John Pereira), Rev. Filifaatali Mike Fuiava, chairman of the LBJ Board and the Hospital Board, management and EMS staff for their hard work.

The Emergency Room will be ready for use next Monday.
