A former House Representative whom Governor Lolo appointed as the administration’s liaison officer to the Legislature, Paopao Fiaui, was remembered in a moment of silence during the House of Representatives regular session yesterday.
The gesture was prompted by current Aua faipule, Faimealelei A Allen who requested House Speaker Savali Talavaou Ale if they could pay tribute to a leader who had served in the Fono for several years as Aua Faipule.
Some lawmakers were wiping or fighting off tears upon seeing House Clerk Mrs. Fialupe Lutu, a sister of Paopao, shedding tears.
Mrs. Lutu said that her brother passed away at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center last Thursday at the age of 72.
Paopao was a weather technician with NOAA up until he retired, then worked for the Governor’s Office as a liaison for the Fono.
He occupied the House of Representatives seat for Aua for a number of years.
As the senior talking chief for Aua, Paopao had been heavily involved with the Aua village fautasi Paepaeulupoo.
He is survived by four children, 8 grandchildren, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
