Alia fishermen and fish lovers are gearing up for the first Local Fishermen Day on September 10.

The event which was suggested at a meeting of fishermen and the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources a few weeks ago is aimed at getting local support for the small alia fishermen and illustrate their importance in the food chain as well as commerce.

DMWR , Department of Commerce and local alia fishermen are putting on the event at the Fagatogo market place parking lot.

Fishermen will sell their fresh catch of reef fish, bottomfish and tuna.

“Support our local fishermen and buy local,” is the message from the organizers of the first Local Fisherman Day.
