Young Man Charged in Tafuna High Break in

district-court

The case of a young man who broke into Tafuna High School recently has been bound over to High Court.

Mathew Barja was charged with burglary in the 1st and 2nd degree and stealing.

It’s alleged that he along with 2 juvenile delinquents broke into Tafuna High School three times between the end of November last year and beginning of January this year.

Among the things they allegedly stole were I-pads, laptop, and earphones.

Mark Ude, attorney for Barja, informed the court that this was his client’s first criminal act…“his first time on record.”

And because of his client’s clean history, Ude asked the court to consider reducing his bail from $40, 000 to $10,000.

The defendant’s mother said on the stand that she does not have that kind of money.

District Court Judge Fiti Sunia granted the reduction in bail.

Barja will be arraigned in High Court tomorrow.
