A memo from the Governor’s Chief of Staff Fiu Johnny Saelua to directors and CEOs of ASG departments and authorities is seeking voluntary donations for the community swimming pool project.

In the August 17 memo, Fiu says last November Governor Lolo Moliga had encouraged directors and their staff to please donate for the construction of the community pool being built at Lions Parks.

The chief of staff says, “We are excited about this project which will provide an opportunity for our residents to enjoy as well as providing a place to conduct swimming and water safety lessons.

He mentions that the request for donations is not mandatory but that any amount the directors, CEO’s and their staff can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

He asked that they turn all donations directly to Utu Abe Malae who’s overseeing the Community Pool project under the auspices of the Pago Pago Rotary Club.

The swimming pool is being built by Fletcher Construction, adjacent to the COMSAT earth station at Lions Park.

A bathhouse is completed and the kiddie swimming pools are now under construction.

A grant of $905, 935 from the Community Development Block Grant Program is going towards the more than $1 million project which is financed largely by donations from the Rotary Club’s fundraisers.
