A container that had been impounded for investigation of contraband that was found inside was released upon the return of Chief of Customs Moetului Sipili Fuiava from off island last week.
A search by customs found weapons and marijuana inside a vehicle and motorcycle inside the container.
Calls to Moetului were not answered, but customs officers say the container belonging to a woman who resides in Pago Pago and employed at the Department of Commerce, was released Friday.
Head of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Department of Public Safety Lavatai Taase Sagapolutele, says the weapons and marijuana which were confiscated are in police custody.
He says they are building a case but their investigation is not completed.
A senior customs agent said they were surprised when the consignee turned up to take a Chevy truck and Yamaha motorcycle that were among the contents of the container.
The agent said they learned later that the Chief of Customs who had been off-island for two weeks, gave the okay to release the container.
