Team American Samoa Goes on Tour

From the Rio Olympics, after an unsuccessful match for Ben Waterhouse in mens judo yesterday, Team American Samoa spent the day building up support among members, coaches and officials in preparation for the second athlete to step into the Olympic arena.

President of the American Samoa National Olympic Committee, Victor Langkilde, says they went on a tour of Christ the Redeemer, Brazil ‘s most famous landmark, a statute of Jesus Christ which stands 125 feet high at the top of a mountain which overlooks the city of Rio De Janeiro

Langkilde said,  “We came together entirely as a family and spent the day together for support and encouragement.”

After their tour, Director of Parks and Recreation, Tamaaiga Maeata’anoa Pili Gaoteote, and his wife Ata hosted the team to a luncheon at one of Rio’s most popular restaurants for a full course meal.

The director also led the gathering in prayer as Team American Samoa prepares for its next Olympic event.

Sprinter Jordan Mageo is racing in the womens 100 Meter sprint preliminary heat at around 3:00 am our Thursday, August 11.

On our Friday, August 12th, around 1:00 am,  Isaac Siafau will compete in the men’s 100 meter sprint preliminary heat.

That same day about 7am, Tanumafili Malietoa Jungblut competes in the 94 kg weight class in weightlifting.
