DOE Confident It Has Enough Teachers

With some minor things to put in place, the Department of Education is ready to usher in the new school year and welcome back to class 12,000 students.

Each year DOE starts the academic year with a shortage of teachers as many resign or retire at the end of the previous school year.

But Assistant Director for Secondary Division, Dr. Samasoni Asaeli says they have the teacher situation under control.

Dr. Asaeli is hoping that there won’t be any last minute resignations as has occurred in the past.

Diana Ameperosa, Assistant Director of the Teacher Quality Office gave a positive report on teacher professional development.

The reports were presented at the final press conference of former Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin- Finau last Friday.

DOE hold its Annual Leadership Academy, August 15-17 for all principals and administrators while the general assembly for all teachers and personnel has been scheduled for August 22nd where Governor Lolo and Lt. Governor Lemanu are expected to attend.

Acting Director Fa’auifono Vaitautolu said that public schools will open August 29th and she has been assured by the Department of Health that there wont be a repeat of what happened last year when the opening of schools were delayed due to unsanitary conditions.
