Congresswoman Aumua Amata, on her way home over the weekend, stopped off in Los Angeles to participate in the annual Flag Day celebration in Carson, CA.

She told the crowd at the celebration she’s fortunate to take part in celebrating “our unique and rich heritage with you all.”

Aumua said, “It is that shared culture that binds us together in these communities that are so far from our dear home islands, and as the Member of Congress who represents American Samoa, I can tell you that it gives me great happiness to see all of you here today taking part in your community and passing along our proud heritage on to our young people. It is essential that they too know about where they come from, and the culture that has guided our people for more than a millennia.” Carson Amata & Faanana

A press release from the congresswoman said the Flag Day celebration in Carson, CA, was a festive event and all in attendance had a fantastic time.

It included performances by Samoan dance groups, traditional music by Samoan musicians, and of course a bounty of Samoan dishes.

One of the attractions was world renowned recording artist Fa’anana Jerome Grey.

The Congresswoman took a moment to address the crowd and thank them for their hospitality and for keeping our traditions and customs alive.

She also thanked High Chief Loa P. Faletogo and his team who organized the  “wonderful celebration, as well as Fa’anana Jerome Grey, whose music is enjoyed by Pacific Islanders around the world, for their hard work and dedication to our heritage.”
