Budget Book Should Be Delivered This Week

Budget Director Catherine Saelua expects the printed budget books to be bound and delivered from the printers before the week is over.

For the last two years, the Lolo Lemanu administration, as part of its efforts to go paperless and save trees, has put the proposed budget document on CD’s.

But the Fono leaders and members have insisted that the budget be in printed format as it has always been.

The Budget Director says the e-copy of the budget is ready but they will wait until the budget books are completed to deliver both to the Fono.

Lawmakers return to their chambers on Monday after a three week recess designed to save session days.

Some lawmakers were off-island for meetings, others attended the All Samoan Golf Tournament in Honolulu and others were delegates to church conferences here and in Samoa.

Other than the budget, the administration is also sending for review during this final regular session of the 34th Legislature, bills relating to limited liability companies, customs scanners and confirmation of the Commissioner and members of the Board of the Office of Financial Institution and other boards and commissions.

Lawmakers will also have their issues to delve into: including the spending of ASEDA bond money and debt repayment, the loan from the Retirement Fund to ASTCA, LBJ’s financial situation and rising debts incurred by the American Samoa Power Authority and American Samoa Telecommunications Authority.

As of yesterday the Fono had not received any legislative proposals from the administration.
