Telethon/Radiothon to Finish Red Cross Home

They’re the first people at the scene after any disaster.

They help bring our soldiers from afar when family members pass away, or  are gravely ill.  They alleviate suffering.

That’s the Red Cross.  The first known presence of the Red Cross in American Samoa is 1923 and from that time till now, the volunteer organization has not had a home it can call its own.

It’s operated from the corner of offices, in a container or a makeshift building.

A permanent home for the Red Cross in American Samoa has now been built.

The project has truly been a labor of love. Building  materials, the contractor-Paramount Builders, and everything about the Red Cross home is donated.

Tomorrow a simultaneous telethon on KVZK-TV and radiothon on 93 KHJ , V103 and other radio stations will be held from 8am to 2pm to raise money to finish the Red Cross building which is scheduled for opening in September.

Chairman of the Red Cross Board, Vaitoa Hans Langkilde, says finishing work is costly and they are making an appeal to the community for help to complete the building.
