Faikala or gossip is blamed for a punching incident which landed the accused assailant in jail last week. On Wednesday, July 20, police received a call from a woman in Pago Pago who said she had been punched in the face by the defendant Faagae Fa’avi. Court affadavits cite responding officers saying that the defendant approached the victim and accused her of gossiping about the relationship between the defendant and her husband. The victim told police despite her repeated denial of engaging in any gossip as the defendant was accusing her of, Faavi would not believe her. She said the defendant suddenly punched her face leaving a deep cut under her left eye and scratches and bruises. The defendant was arrested and taken to the Territorial Correctional Facility on a peace disturbance charge however its likely that the government will file additional charges. Bail was set at $500.
