Be Alert When You Are Paying ASPA Bills at Night

Members of the public have been advised to be alert when parking outside the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) Customer Service in Tafuna at dark. This follows two incidents in which customers were mugged in the area. In one incident, a director was inside the ASPA customer service office after hours when a young man walked up to the passenger’s seat and snatched a purse from his wife and fled. An image of the suspect was recorded on ASPA’s surveillance camera and according to sources he was an inmate. Police found the young man drinking at a store at the Fagaima intersection and when police pulled up he fled the scene taking a short cut next to a tire shop in and the area and dashed for the TCF. It’s believed that the inmate got out through a hole in the fence at the back of TCF. When police caught up with him he was trying  to catch his breath. In the most recent incident last week, a pick-up truck was parked outside with windows down while a man and his brother from off-island were in the ASPA office. A man was seen on the surveillance camera calmly walking up to the truck, opening the door and helping himself to the brothers’ smart phones and some other electronic devices that were in the back seat of the truck. Up to now, the suspect has not been identified and is still at large. Police are looking for leads and the stolen items have not been recovered.
