The man accused of biting a flight attendant on Hawaiian Air’s flight from Pago Pago to Honolulu on Monday has been released.

Aumoeualogo Togia has posted a $25,000 unsecured bond and has been released from the Honolulu federal detention center.

He is charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants, a crime which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years.

According to US Attorney Margaret Nammar who is prosecuting the case, the court ordered that Togia be placed with a third party custodian.  His travel is restricted to the State of Hawaii where he resides.

Court affidavits say he acted belligerent when told to return to his seat as the seat belt light was illuminated.

He allegedly threatened to kill anyone who touched him or his kids whom he was traveling with.

It took two plane loaders for Hawaiian Air with the help of passengers to put restraining belts on him., according to court filings.

During the struggle to restrain him, he allegedly bit one of the attendants.

According to court papers, Togia said he had two beers prior to boarding the flight and he also drank several small liquor bottles.

He claimed he didn’t know anything and may have blacked out.

Togia also admitted to being a bad drunk.
