18 New Cooks Hired at School Lunch

The Department of Education has hired 18 new cooks for the School Lunch Program for the new school year.

This was confirmed by Acting Director of Education Fa’auifono Vaitautolu at a press conference last week to announce elementary schools which have passed the first phase of review by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, WASC.

Responding to KHJ News, Vaitautolu said the new hires  have undergone training and are now preparing meals for various educational and sports activities this summer.

Several of the new cooks are from Alataua District.

The hiring of teachers and other personnel in public schools and other divisions of DOE is also in progress.

The acting director was unable to provide the number of personnel needed but said she’s hoping by the start of the new school year, all vacancies will be filled

Vaitautolu is encouraging new college graduates to apply for teaching jobs as DOE always experiences a teacher shortage each year.
