Drugs found at airport & Post Office

Two incidents where drugs were intercepted at the airport and Post Office occurred in the last two consecutive weeks.

Efforts to obtain information about the two drug finds have not been successful.
Chief of Customs Moetului Sipili Fuiava wanted to know how KHJ News found out about the package that was intercepted at the airport and declined to give out any information.
Customs and police sources have told KHJ News that a man handed a package to one of the Polynesian Airline pilots to take to Manu’a.

The pilot apparently become suspicious and turned over the package to authorities.

A customs dog alerted when it sniffed the package.

Inside the package was marijuana.

It’s understood that the name of a government employee in Manu’a was written on the package.

Police were contacted and the package with the illegal substance was turned over to police.

The second discovery was made at the Post Office last week and according to our sources, drugs were found but the type was uncertain.

Customs Chief Moetului would only confirm the two drug finds but would not provide any details saying they are under investigation.

Commissioner of Public Safety Save Liuato Tuitele who would normally answer media questions is currently off island.

Deputy Commissioner Maiava when asked about the two incidents said he didn’t have any information but promised to provide answers.

However several phone calls to his office and cell phone were not answered.
