Today media were informed that Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin Finau will be announcing her candidacy for the election of American Samoa’s Delegate to Washington D.C.
Its been publicly known that Vaitinasa will be throwing her name in to the mix for the 2016 congressional race which is quickly crowding up.
She first made known her plan to run for Congress several months ago at a meeting of the American Samoa Democratic Party.
Vaitinasa is making her announcement at a noon meeting with the media at the Lucky 7 Restaurant at noon on Monday.
Those who have already announced their candidacies for American Samoa’s seat in Congress are Tuaau Kereti Matautia, Mapu Jamias, and Meleagi Suitonu Chapman.
KHJ News understands that another congressional candidate will be announcing soon.
Incumbent congresswoman Aumua Amata has already made public that she will be seeking a second term as the territory’s member in the US House of Representatives.
