About 800 youth, 14-24 will be employed in the  Summer Youth Employment Program this summer.

That’s 100 more than last year’s  SYEP intake.

Director of Human Resources, Le’i Sonny Thompson explains that the  SYEP program prepares young people for careers and provides them on the job training.

The youth will work in ASG departments, semi autonomous agencies and the private sector for six weeks.

A goal that Le’I and his staff are aiming for with the 2016 SYEP is to “improve on assessing the number of “out-of-school youth” and hopefully “determine their skills for future employment options or to return to school.

The participants will work four hours a  day and will be paid $5 per hour.

Supervisor and Employer Orientation starts on Tuesday, June 14 at the Election Office Conference room at 9 am.

An orientation for the selected participants takes place  Wednesday, June 15 at the Youth Center in Pago.

An official opening ceremony is set for the following day at the same venue,  after which the youth will go through a job placement process from June 20th to the 24th.

After that they will report to work at their ASG and private sector worksites.
