This third day of the Steinlager I’a Lapo’a Game Fishing Tournament was supposed to be Ladies Day however organizers said yesterday that there would be no fishing today because the weather will be worse than yesterday.

Rain and wind since last night have made the seas choppy and less than ideal to try and land some big ones. .

Yesterday saw some huge swells and some boats didn’t go very far before heading back to the marina.

The foul weather has not dampened the enthusiasm of the fishermen and women who are taking part in this year’s tournament.

There are about two dozen boats entered, 12 of which are from New Zealand and 3 are from Samoa.

The rest are from the territory’s recreational fishing boat fleet.

One of the key people behind the annual tourney, businessman Peter Crispin, said the weather would have been ideal if the tournament was held last week as originally planned.

However due to weather related delays in shipping the boats from New Zealand for the Apia leg of the tourney, they  were forced to postpone the event a week.

One of the fishermen from New Zealand is George Clarke who used to be a captain on the Forum Samoa ships and in the 1960’s was an officer on the Thor.
