Governor Lolo Moliga, the Flag Day Committee co-chairs, Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Secretary of Samoan Affairs, Mauga Tasi Asuega, and the captains of all fautasi which raced on Saturday, has reached a decision concerning the finals of the 2016 Flag Day Fautasi Race.

The decision is that there will be no more fautasi races for this Flag Day.

In other words the finals between six fautasi that were picked by the Commitee following the heats on Saturday have been scrapped.

A member of the Committee who did not wish to be named said that the main consideration of the Governor,  the Flag Day Committee and fautasi captains was to prevent any further trouble arising from the fautasi races.

Another factor was the weather…a high surf and small craft advisory are in effect, with swells of 10-12 ft, increasing up to 14t ft tonight and for the rest of the week.

The decision comes as at least two villages with fautasi qualifying for the finals decided to pull out from the finals.

It’s not known what will happen to the purse of the 2016 Flag Day Fautasi Race but it has been suggested that the money be divided equally among all of the village fautasi.
