Territory Hosts Many Guests for Flag Day & Before

The territory is hosting several meetings and workshops this week before Flag Day and some of the hotels are reported at near full or full.

Both Hawaiian Air and Polynesian Airlines in bound flights are booked solid.

At Sadie’s by the Sea, the Pacific Judicial Council, to which chief justices and judges of the US Pacific territories and freely associated states belong, is holding its annual conference.

Among the 30 off-island participants are federal judges.

A welcome dinner was held at Government House, Maugaoalii last night for the delegates.

A marine enforcement workshop under the auspices of NOAA is happening at the Pago Plaza.

There are also consultants and green energy companies here to work on alternative energy projects for the American Samoa Power Authority and the Territorial Energy Office.

A team from the US Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division is also in the territory, investigating open cases, and doing outreach with ASG and the private sector.

The Kaneohe Marine Band arrived on Monday night  to perform at the Flag Day ceremonies.

But before then, the Marines are entertaining at local schools.

The band brought music cheer to the elderly residents, staff and pre school children at Hope House yesterday.

Some of the VIP guests for Flag Day traveling via Samoa will begin arriving today, such as the New Zealand-based Swiss ambassador to NZ, Samoa and American Samoa.

Polynesian Airlines flights from Samoa are full for the rest of the week.

Other VIPS traveling from Samoa arrive Friday continuing to Sunday before the opening church service for Flag Day that afternoon.

They include Samoa’s Head of State Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Ulu o Tokelau, Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele, the United States charge d’affaires in Apia, and representatives of foreign embassies in Samoa like Australia and New Zealand .

One business woman from Samoa with a company here, has been trying to get a seat on Polynesian Airlines since the weekend.

She’s aiming to promote her company’s services at the Flag Day Trade Fair but as of yesterday she hadn’t found a seat.
Most of the guests heading from the mainland or Hawaii, including Assistant Secretary of Insular Affairs Esther Kia’aina who will keynote Flag Day 2016, will be on the Friday night Hawaiian Air flight.
