For the second time this week a bird strike delayed Hawaiian Airlines’ return flight to Honolulu for Hawaiian Airlines.

The Friday night flight arrived from Honolulu on time however as it was coming into land at Pago Pago International Airport, the aircraft was struck by a nest of birds.

Hawaiian Air spokeswoman Ann Botticelli, said from Honolulu that  three birds were involved, two of them plovers.

Passengers who were ready to board the flight were forced to return home or to their hotels after collecting their luggage which had already been checked in ,

This was the same case for Monday’ night’s flight.  A bird strike forced the cancellation of the return flight to Honolulu while the airline ferried in an aircraft to pick up the affected passengers, and bring down a mechanic to fix the aircraft.

For Friday night’s flight, passengers were only able to depart at 7:30 last night on a replacement plane that Hawaiian Air also ferried from Honolulu.

Botticelli says Hawaiian Air is in communication with the Airport Division in American Samoa and will work with them to deal with the bird problem.
