Vendors for the Hot Meal Program for the elderly are thankful to finally receive payment for the hundreds of meals they’ve provided since late last year.

One restaurant owner who was owed about $60,000 said he was grateful that the Territorial Administration on Aging Office finally came through and sorted out the paperwork to satisfy the federal grantor so that funds could be drawn down to pay them.

TAOA Director Ale Tifimalae confirmed that all seven vendors for the Hot Meal Program have now been paid…five in Tutuila and two in Manu’a.

He says the US Department of Health and Human Services which funds the hot meals approved a total of $250,000 to pay the outstanding invoices.

Ale says TAOA should also be issuing checks this week to pay bills for the month of  March while also processing the paperwork so vendors will get payment on time for meals served in April and May.

The current vendors were retained on six month contracts which were up awhile back and TAOA was supposed to issue a new bid.

However Ale says TAOA will continue using the current vendors for the hot meal program.
