March ASPA Bill Will Show Lower Power Rate

Your next ASPA bill will show a drop in the electricity rate.

If you were using 350 kilowatts of power in March of 2014, you would have paid $135 for electricity.

The new rate which has kicked in with the latest drop in fuel prices will give you a savings of $50 for the same amount of power,.

You’ll be paying $85 for 350 kilowatts.

When compared to power rate in March of last year, the same usage would cost you $98.16 at the new price, a saving of $13.15.

According to ASPA’s Customer Service Manager Ryan Tuatoo, the March 2016 electricity fuel surcharge rate of .14546 is the lowest since June of 2005 when it was 0.14731.

The reduction is attributed to the  cost of fuel dropping  over the last year and that savings is being passed on to customers..

Says Tuatoo, “When the prices at the pumps go down, so does the ASPA fuel surcharge.”

He explains the fuel portion of ASPA rates is a straight pass through to the fuel companies, so it is not a matter of dropping their rates, but a matter of fuel prices dropping, which directly affects ASPA’s charges.

ASPA still maintains its “base rate” portion of the kiloWatt Hour (kWh), which is fixed, and ASPA collects that for every kWh used, no matter how much the rate has dropped.

Also, contributing to the reduction in the surcharge  is  good output from ASPA’s solar panels with the heat in February.

Tuato’o says this added to the savings or lower fuel surcharge rate.

Historically for a $20 residential debit meter purchase,  in March 2014  one would get 51.9 kWh, this increased to 71.3 kwh in March 2015 and this month to 82.4 kWh.

So with the lower rate, you get 30 more units of power compared to March 2014 and 10 more units compared to March 2015.

Tuato’o says water rates have also gone down since the pump charge, which is direct cost for electricity to pump water has dropped.

It is $3.34 per 1000/gal for residential and $3.56 per 1000/gal for commercial.
