Ahead of their caucus on Tuesday,  the American Samoa Republican Party has been drumming up support for the two front runner candidates under he Republican banner.

On Saturday at the home of Utu Abe Malae, President of the local Republican Party, two members of Senator Ted Cruz’s camp, senior advisor Saul Anuzis and Dr. David Panton, who was Cruz’ best man at his wedding spoke via conference call about why Cruz should be the party’s presidential candidate.

Cruz and non-Cruz supporters joined officers Utu, Vice chair-John Raynar, Secretary-Saili Samoa and Treasurer-Charles Warren in the conference call.

Anuzis spoke first primarily on Cruz’s platform points and a primer on the RNC process, including contested and brokered nominations.

Dr. Panton then discussed Cruz’s character, belief system, and management style, among many other things.

Warren said Dr. Panton provided sincere honest answers from his perspective on Cruz the man.

The former classmate of Senator Cruz also invited questions from local Republicans and the conversation went well over an hour.

Meanwhile…about  50 supporters of Presidential front runner Donald Trump attended a rally hosted by local supporters Saturday night at.

Chairman of the Trump campaign in American Samoa John Raynar said that the candidate  is a pleasant surprise in the field of presidential candidates particularly considering that the Obama administration has neglected American Samoa for so long and not even so much as a visit from Obama who often vacations in his home in the neighboring islands of Hawaii.

The event which was promoted on social media received hostile threats from several  people off island who were anti-Trump,

But Trump’s campaign manager  said the event was a success.

Raynar said he didn’t take any of that seriously, dismissing them as a hollow threat.

Raynar said he did ask the Commissioner, Governor and Lt Governor for police presence ahead of the event but they never responded.

Raynar pointed out that Gov Lolo has endorsed Hillary Clinton and suggested that had something to do with his lack of response in providing police presence for the Trump rally.  Regardless, he said the event went on unmarred.
