There are now 13 confirmed cases of Zika, and five are pregnant mothers.

Since the Zika outbreak first surfaced late last year the number of suspected cases stands at 279.

Epidemiologist for the Department of Health, Magele Scott Anesi says the district with the highest number of suspected cases is Tuala-uta, and that’s to be expected given that Tuala-uta has the largest population.

But the district with the highest attack rate of Zika is Ituau, specifically Nuuuli village.

Territory wide efforts to stop the spread of the Zika virus is concentrated on eradicating breeding places for mosquitoes.

Epidemiologist Anesi says DOH is appreciative of the support from government departments and the villages of Leone, Tafuna and Iliili for their positive response to the clean up for Zika.

He says pregnant mothers are also taking responsibility for their own protection, seeking information about Zika and following advice of health officials.
