More than $17,000 raised in radiothon/telethon

Also on Saturday was the radiothon telethon that was scheduled long before Winston wreaked havoc in Fiji, to send American Samoa’s delegation to the Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam this May.

Telethon UNcle JoeDonations were still coming in after KVZK-TV and radio stations 93-KHJ and V103 signed off at the end of the well supported fundraiser.

The total tally of cash and checks in hand Saturday was $17,932, excluding pledges.

Unpaid pledges are still being collected including the many off island donors.

Uta Dr. Laloulu Tagoilelagi, Director of the Amerika Samoa Arts Council thanks all those who donated money or in kind and the volunteers who turned out to support the effort.

radiothon CULessThere was a strong showing of parents teachers and students of Faasao Marist High School, led by Principal Victor Langkilde and school chaplain, Fr. Vaiula Iulio.

The school’s cultural group has been picked to be the territory’s cultural ambassadors to Guam, along with painters, weavers, carvers and culinary artists from the territory.

The Executive Director on behalf of the Arts Council Board represented during the 6 hour fundraiser by Deacon. Sauileone Aigofie, also thanked KVZK-TV and Southseas Broadcasting for donating air time to promote and air the radiothon/telethon.

He asks those who have not paid their pledges to please stop by the museum and drop them off.
