The BlueSky Group has launched its own relief drive for Fiji which has been left in ruins and a multi million dollar recovery bill after Tropical Cyclone Winston’s deadly force winds swept through the islands last week.

The death toll has climbed to 42 with two still missing.

More than 60,000 remain in evacuation centers, mostly schools, after their homes and all their belongings were destroyed.

The BlueSky Group, with phone companies in American Samoa, Samoa, Cook Islands and New Zealand have launched “Fiji Needs Our Help” drive to help families displaced by the cyclone especially the children.

A memo to Blue Sky staff about the relief drive asks for donations of:

Clothing especially children’s clothing which must be cleaned and separated by mens , womens, boys and girls, perishable food items such as canned goods and other dry goods that can be easily packaged and shipped children’s books which will go to schools most affected by the cyclone and identified through Fiji’s Ministry of Education.

BlueSky hopes to ship all that’s collected by the week of March 14th.

Any member of the public who wants to pitch in to help Fiji can drop off their donations at the BlueSky Store at Laufou or any of the BlueSky kiosks.

The phone company also helped Fijian residents and those with relatives in Fiji connect with their loved ones.

Rates to Fiji from Monday up to today were halved from 25 cents per minute to 12 cents.
