The Department of Education Special Education Division is conducting a Professional Development Day for all special education staff at the Pago Youth Village Center-tomorrow.

For the first time in many years, more than 200 special education staff, teachers, principals, bus drivers and administrators, will attend.

The objective is for participants to learn and contribute to the ASDOE State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP).

American Samoa’s SSIP focuses on the improvement of reading proficiency rates for students with disabilities.

One of the main elements of the ASDOE 5-Yr. Strategic Plan is the Dual Language program, aimed at developing and increase proficiency in two languages so students overall academic achievement will increase by 3rd grade.

Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr, Salu Hunkin Finau says,“We are “Moving Forward in Achieving Results Together”-“Ia Tulimata’i Fua a Outou Faiva Alofilima”, to produce better outcomes for students with disabilities in American Samoa.
