Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Areas Esther Kia’aina has encouraged dialogue on self determination for the territories of Guam, Virgin islands and American Samoa.
The three territories are on the United Nations list of non self governing territories,
Kia’aina today moderated a panel discussion with experts for the three insular areas and the Department of Interior which looked at where the territories stand with regards to self determination.
Kia’aina said since the last meeting of the federal government and the territories on this subject was held in 1993 it was important for the federal government and experts from the territories to give an updated context for federal policy makers and a new generation to learn the status of self determination in each territory.
