The Republican Party of American Samoa hosted their Lincoln Reagan Dinner Saturday night, a celebration of two prominent Republicans in the GOP or Grand Ol’ Party.

The evening’s keynote speaker Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party impressed upon the importance of American Samoa in the political process in what he said will be a very close election.

Graham said it’s critical for American Samoa to attend the Republican Convention in Cleveland so that it has just as much representation as all other states and territories.

Congresswoman Aumua Amata who is also the National Committeewoman for the Republican Party complemented what Graham said by underscoring how crucial American Samoa was to the political process as American Samoa intends to send an uncommitted delegation to Cleveland where they don’t pledge votes to any Republican candidate until the convention this summer.

American Samoa has 9 delegates, which are worth as much as large mainland states like Texas or California.

The silent auction served as a backdrop for the keynote speakers that showcased about $20,000 worth of local artwork and handcrafts.

A catalogue for these items has also been submitted to all the remaining Republican Presidential candidates who hope to secure American Samoa’s nine delegates in this year’s election.

Proceeds from the auction will go towards the Republican Party Of American Samoa’s travel expenses to the National Convention in Cleveland in late July of this year.

The auction remains open to local bidders as well.
