Flag Day Program 2016 Will Include Trade & Farm Fair

A trade exhibition by local merchants and a farm fair are included in the Flag Day program for 2016.

Acting Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga who co chairs the Flag Day Organizing Committee with Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega says beginning Monday, April 11 there will be activities at the Suiga ula o le Atuvasa in Utulei.

A farm fair and a trade fair will be held during the day and the annual Flag Day Program by the Arts Council will be held in the evenings.

On Saturday, April 16 will be the fautasi race.

Lemanu said that in addition to the known village fautasi, there will also be longboats rowed by the different branches of government.

So far only the Fono has announced it will be in the race, but word has it that the Executive Branch will also be fielding a long boat, and one will represent the private sector.

A village entertaining group and a fautasi have been invited from Samoa and its left to the Samoa Government to make the selection.

Later Saturday evening will be a state dinner at the Lee Auditorium.

On Sunday April 17, the day that the US flag was first raised on local soil in 1700, the Flag Day church service will be held.

Then on Monday is the official Flag Day Program which will include a parade, raising of the flags, speeches, and cultural entertainment.

Several sports activities are also planned as part of the Flag Day celebration.
