Story Contest for American Samoa

In a move to promote writing and literary expression among young writers in American Samoa, Samoa’s only daily newspaper, the Samoa Observer, is sponsoring a story competition.

The topic of the writing competition is, “My World as it is, or how you would like it to be.”

It is a contest only for American Samoa and entries can be as short or as long as the author want them to be.

There are three age groups: Elementary level, Grades 6 -8, High School, Grades, 9-13 and College, 1st and 2nd year.

Entries can be either in English or Samoan or can be entered in both languages.

Partnering with Samoa Observer in the competition are Apia-based companies which have set up in the territory, Eveni Carruthers and Samoa Stationary and Books, SABB.

The Managing Director of SABB, Fiti Leung Wai, who formerly headed the Commerce Department at the National University of Samoa is encouraging teachers, parents, and church ministers to get their students and children to put pen to paper and win some great educational prizes.

Entry forms have been distributed to public and private elementary and high schools , the college and can also be obtained from SSAB Store in Tafuna or Eveni Carruthers at the airport and Pago Plaza, the deadline for entries is Monday April 4th and the winners will be announced April 27th.
