07/30/2010

Attorney General Fepuleai Afa Ripley is now the acting governor.

Governor Togiola Tulafono left the territory last night and Lt. Governor Faoa Aitofele Sunia is also off island.

No information was available from the Governor’s Office on the governor’s trip but it’s believed he has meetings in Hawaii and Australia and will also be attending the Samoan Heritage Week slated for August 8-14.

The governor is also a featured speaker in a conference in Australia August 12 and 13th titled the Inaugural Pacific Islands Investment Summit. He is to speak on the second day of the conference on the benefits of on shore tuna processing investments.

The conference also includes panels on opportunities in the $20 billion dollar US military build up on Guam and the Northern Marianas and Tourism as the Change agent of the Pacific Region.

Samoa's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Misa Telefoni is also one of the speakers.

Meanwhile the High Court has issued an order on both the governor and Treasurer Magalei Logovii to appear for a hearing Monday on Senator Velega Savali’s motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the spending of government funds on the Samoan Heritage Week celebration without Fono approval.

As of late yesterday afternoon, ASG had not filed a response to the suit.
