Kudos to Sen. Savali

07/24/2010

Kudos to Senator Velega Savali, Jr. for standing up to Governor Togi by filing a lawsuit to prevent the gov from spending public money on the Samoan Heritage Festival in Honolulu without legislative approval.  The suit names the gov and ASG Treasurer Magalei Logovi'i as defendants.  Togi pulled the same stunt last year, securing Fono approval to spend the money only after it had been spent.  Savali's concern is that taxpayer money could be better spent locally, rather than on a party in Honolulu, to which we wholeheartedly agree.  This is just another example of Togi's regular pattern of forging ahead on his own personal agenda, without regard for proper legal process.  Senator Velega is to be commended to standing up to him.
