While in the territory this week, a senior official of the US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, Min Park, hopes to hold discussions with ASG regarding overtime payment for the Department of Public Safety.

Unpaid police overtime has been brought up continually in the House of Representatives and  now and then in the Senate.

When Fiscal Year 2015 closed, there was money leftover in the DPS budget.

But this unspent money was not applied to the overtime costs of officers who had to work for Flag Day assignments, funeral protocols, disaster work and special enforcement.

For the first six months of FY 2016, DPS rank and file have again accrued overtime from the same types of after hours and weekend assignments,.

Ms Park said she hopes they will soon reach an agreement to resolve the overtime pay of cops.

KHJ News has been told that at least six officers resigned this month.
