The weather man served up sunshine this morning as the 2016 Flag Day got off to a great start with the opening of the Farm and Trade Fair at Suiga ula o le Atuvasa.

About 30 companies and home-based vendors are displaying what they make and sell in American Samoa.

Everything from plants to tuna, to educational books to butane gas and stoves, to clothing, health products, handicrafts and food.

Phone company BlueSky is also exhibiting phones and promoting Flag Day packages.

Stalls displaying agricultural goods are not as many, but the farmers who are at Utulei are proudly showing off their papaya, lemons, vi, bananas, yams and other produce.

Some with unique shapes and sizes. More farmers are expected to show up during the week.

More than 5 vendors are selling food plates, snacks, shave ice and smoothies.

Maryanne Potuliki is minding a stall of carvings by her father…he’s carved turtles, dolphins, a tunoa or traditional bowl carved out of wood used for food preparation, bangles and many other items.

Maryanne says this is a family venture and she and her siblings help their father who does all the carvings.
