TAOA to Serve Hot Meals 4 Days a Week

There is good news for senior citizens!

The Territorial Administration On Aging Office (TAOA) has added a fourth day for the hot meal program, for the elderly.

TAOA Grant Administrator/Assistant Director, Lorelei Haleck Fifita announced that starting next month, hot meals will be served Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

At present there are no hot meals on Friday.

An announcement has already been made to the leaders of each village “to’omaga” informing senior citizens of the good news.

Since the tsunami of 2009, more than 4,000 seniors were registered under TAOA but according to Haleck Fifita just over 1,000 people are signed up for the hot meal program.

She pointed out that there are still some people who refuse to register despite TAOA’s efforts to explain that the change is a requirement from the federal grantor.

Haleck Fifita says while there is nothing TAOA can do to change the hot meals back to food vouchers, they’re hoping the senior citizens realize that TAOA is providing the program for their benefit.
