Suspected Zika Cases Edges Close to 400

The number of suspected zika cases in the territory has reached nearly 400.

The latest report of the Zika outbreak from the Department of Health puts the number of suspected Zika cases at 385.

Since the territory began seeing patients with symptoms of the virus such as redness of the eyes, a rash and fever, a total of 83 blood samples have been sent off island for for testing to determine if those showing signs of the virus had Zika or dengue or chickungunya.

Dengue and Chik have symptoms which are very similar to Zika.

Forty of the blood samples sent to Hawaii for testing are of pregnant woman suspected of having Zika.

From the 83 blood samples sent off island for testing, 14 have been confirmed to have Zika.

Six of the confirmed cases of Zika are pregnant mothers.

A team from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been assisting local health authorities respond to the Zika  outbreak.
