Special Olympic Amerika Samoa has been certified and granted full accreditation status for another two years with Special Olympic International.

The letter and certificate of accreditation was received by Special Olympic Amerika Samoa President Tafaimamo Tupuola from board chair of Special Olympic International Timothy Shriver.

Ms. Tupuola said in order for Special Olympic Amerika Samoa to obtain accreditation, they were required to submit minutes of meetings, and financial reports such as annual gross income, in addition to annual competitions.

Tupuola said the accreditation authorizes the Special Olympic Amerika Samoa to use the Special Olympic logo and name for fundraising purposes in addition to sending more than 2 athletes to compete in the Winter and Summer World Games.

As part of the new accreditation standards, all Special Olympic programs are now required to have a financial expert to serve on their Board.

Ms. Tupuola says financial reports are available and transparent to the general public.

This June the Special Olympic Amerika Samoa will open their general membership to the public for those who would like to be a part of the Special Olympic movement.

All general members in good standing will elect and can serve as new Board members.

If anyone is interested in joining as a General Member the annual membership fee is $20.

All individuals with disabilities are waived the membership fee.
