In a stunning upset in Aloha Stadium, American Samoa’s Seniors went the distance and defeated the Northern California All Stars 14-7!

It should be noted that Northern California has some of the top recruits in the country like Tongan Jordan Parker who has been courted by the likes of Washington State, UCLA and now the Oklahoma Sooners.

It was a slow start for Nu’ulli’s Superstar Kevin Maukoloa who began as American Samoa’s quarterback.

While Maukoloa didn’t have any turnvoers, there wasn’t much gelling offensively either.

However, American Samoa’s defense stepped things up when NorCal was set up for a TD at American Samoa’s 10 yard line, but Viane Moala’s sack, and coverage from Stuart Toilolo and Scheyenne Sanitoa on end zone routes forced a turnover on downs.

Late in the 2nd quarter, Assistant Coach Loso Iualolo opted for his quarter back Tito Malae who found his fellow Warrior receiver Leti Paaga for a 30 yard touchdown and then rounded out the 1st half with a Leti Paaga 98-yard kick off return to answer Northern California’s only score of the game.

At halftime, the score was American Samoa 14, North Cal 7 and it stayed that way the rest of the night.

Following halftime, American Samoa opted for a more conservative short yardage attack with their top ranked running backs Folasa Vili and Oly Taase, while not getting any second half scores, were able to dominate time of possession coupled with a stout defensive effort from the vaunted secondary likes of Folasa Vili, Sheyenne Sanitoa, McMiller Motuga and D-Line show stoppers like Iverson Moana and Viliama Misu.

American Samoa’s defensive effort stopped Northern California who weren’t able to convert touchdowns or first downs.

Headcoach Pati Pati said this has been a rewarding experience for players from competing teams across the island to come together to play for American Samoa, and also the coaches:

The Junior Prep Classic wraps up on Saturday night with coverage of American Samoa vs Hawaii’s All Stars starting at 6PM on V103.
